Florida Paycheck & Tax Calculators — 2026

Florida has no state income tax on wages, so a Florida paycheck only loses federal income tax and FICA (Social Security and Medicare). Use the calculators below to see your exact 2026 take-home pay in Florida, check the sales tax on a purchase, and estimate a mortgage payment with Florida property taxes factored in.

State Paycheck Calculator 2026

Estimate take-home pay after federal tax, FICA and your state’s income tax for the 2026 tax year.

How it works: the 2026 federal standard deduction ($16,100 single, $32,200 married filing jointly) comes off your salary first, then the 2026 federal brackets (10%–37%). FICA is applied properly: 6.2% Social Security on the first $184,500 of wages (2026 wage base), 1.45% Medicare on all wages, plus 0.9% additional Medicare on wages above $200,000 single / $250,000 married filing jointly. State tax applies each state’s own standard deduction/exemptions, then its brackets or flat rate. Local income taxes are not included — many cities and counties (e.g. New York City, Philadelphia, most of Ohio, Maryland counties, Indiana counties, Kentucky) levy their own payroll taxes on top of the state tax.

The statewide base sales tax rate in Florida is 6% in 2026. Cities and counties can add their own local tax on top of the base rate — enter any local add-on below to see the full tax and total price.

State base rates are the 2026 state-level rates (local add-ons excluded). Actual combined rates vary widely by city and county — many localities add 1–5%. Five states have no statewide sales tax (Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, Oregon), though some localities still levy local taxes.

Mortgage calculator for Florida homes

The average effective property tax rate in Florida is about 0.76% of a home’s value per year. When you use the mortgage calculator below, enter roughly that percentage of the home price in the yearly property tax field for a realistic Florida monthly payment.

How it works: your loan amount (price minus down payment) is repaid in equal monthly instalments using the standard amortisation formula, so early payments are mostly interest and later ones mostly principal. Property tax and insurance, if entered, are simply spread evenly across each month. Your actual rate and payment will depend on your lender, credit profile and the deal you choose.

Florida’s constitution bans a state income tax on wages. Not just “doesn’t have one right now” — bans it. Changing that would take a constitutional amendment, not a bad budget year and a vote in Tallahassee. If you earn $75,000 in Florida, here’s what actually lands in your account, and where the state quietly gets its money instead.

Income tax in Florida in 2026

There is no state income tax on wages in Florida, and the ban sits in the state constitution. A future legislature can’t simply pass a law to introduce one.

That changes your paperwork as much as your pay. There’s no state tax return to file for your wages, no state withholding line on your payslip, and no Florida standard deduction or state brackets to worry about — because there’s no tax for them to apply to. What comes out of a Florida paycheck is federal tax and FICA. That’s it.

And yes, it adds up. On a $75,000 salary, a Florida worker keeps several thousand dollars a year that a worker in a taxed state hands over. You’ll see the exact gap in the example below.

Worked example: $75,000 salary, single filer

Step 1 — taxable income. For state purposes there is nothing to calculate: Florida taxes $0 of your wages, so there’s no state taxable income figure.

Step 2 — state tax. Florida state income tax is $0.00.

Step 3 — federal tax. Federal income tax is $7,670.00, worked out after the federal standard deduction of $16,100. Florida doesn’t change this bill — it’s the same wherever you live in the US.

Step 4 — FICA. Social Security and Medicare take $5,737.50: $4,650.00 for Social Security and $1,087.50 for Medicare.

Step 5 — take-home. $75,000 minus $7,670.00 and $5,737.50 leaves $61,592.50 a year, or about $2,368.94 every two weeks. Only federal tax and FICA come out.

Sales tax in Florida

This is where Florida starts collecting. The state base rate is 6.00%, so a $1,000 purchase carries $60 of state sales tax before anything local is added.

Counties then add their own discretionary surtaxes. Most shoppers don’t pay 6% — combined rates commonly reach 7% to 8% depending on the county. It’s a small difference on groceries-to-go or a phone case. On a car or a kitchen remodel, it’s real money, and it’s worth checking your county’s combined rate before you budget a big purchase.

Property tax in Florida

The average effective property tax rate is 0.76%, a statewide average. On a $300,000 home, expect about $2,280 a year.

That sits in the middle nationally — higher than Hawaii or Delaware, far lower than Illinois or New Jersey. But averages hide a lot in Florida, where values vary sharply between inland towns and the coast. Two homes with the same price tag in different counties can still face noticeably different bills once local millage rates are applied. That is worth remembering when you compare a Florida salary with one in a taxed state: the income tax saving is guaranteed, the property bill depends on the address you pick.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to file a Florida state tax return for my wages?
No. There’s no state income tax on wages, so there’s no state return to file for them.

Could Florida introduce an income tax in future?
Not easily. The ban is in the state constitution, so introducing a tax on wages would need a constitutional change, not just new legislation.

If there’s no income tax, how does Florida fund itself?
Largely through sales tax, property tax and tourism. Millions of visitors pay sales tax on hotels, rental cars, meals and shopping every year, which shifts part of the burden onto people who don’t live here. Residents still pay — just at the till and on their homes, rather than through a paycheck deduction.

Is Florida a tax-free state, then?
No. No income tax doesn’t mean no taxes. You’ll pay 6% state sales tax plus a county surtax on most purchases, and property tax on a home you own.

How much more do I keep in Florida on $75,000?
Your take-home is $61,592.50, with only federal tax and FICA deducted. In a state taxing that salary at around 5%, you’d typically keep $3,000 to $4,000 less over the year.

Try the paycheck, sales tax and mortgage calculators on this page with your own salary and county — the sales tax surtax is the number that surprises most new arrivals.
